RHLI VETERANS ASSOCIATION - UNIT 57 CANADIAN CORPS ASSOCIATION
Lynda Murdock-Furchner, CD, C.I.M., CGA
Lynda’s affiliation with the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry started in January 1978 when she joined the RHLI Army Cadets at age 15.
She worked through the 4 year star program and rank structure achieving her Master Cadet (Gold Star) in 1980. She became the first female cadet commanding officer of the corps in 1981 and was promoted to the rank of Cadet Captain.
At age 19, she enrolled as an adult instructor with the corps by joining the Cadet Instructors List (CIL). She worked through the ranks as a CIL officer, holding positions of training officer, administration officer. She became the first female commanding officer in 1986 and was promoted to the rank of Captain.
She served two, three year terms and Commanding Officer (1986-1989) and (1993-1996) and received Canadian Forces Decoration (CD) for long service in 1995.
She retired from the Cadet Corp in 1997 but still wanted to be affiliated with the RHLI. Over the years, representatives from the RHLI Veterans Association visited the cadet corp. She decided in 1997 to join the RHLI Veterans Association. She has held positions of Executive Member, Secretary, Second Vice President, and First Vice President and has now been elected the first female President of the Association in following the unfortunate passing of President Don Booker. It is her intention to continue in this position as long as the membership will elect her to do so.
Lynda has had a long and successful career with Aon Reed Stenhouse Insurance Brokers and predecessor companies spanning 27 years. She started her career as an Accounting Clerk in Aon’s Hamilton office. Since that time she has held successive positions of greater leadership and responsibility, such as branch accountant, regional accounting manager, and divisional accounting manager leading to her current position of Corporate Accounting Manager at Aon Canada head office Toronto.
Lynda holds two professional designations. She is a Certified General Accountant (CGA) and Certified in Management and Administration (CIM).
She has held and continues to hold many volunteer leadership positions in the community, such as; Governor on the board of CGA Ontario, Chair and board member at CGA Hamilton, supervisor of a pledge processing team for the Chedoke McMaster Children’s Hospital telethon, two terms as Commanding Officer of the RHLI Cadet Corp, Treasurer of the C.I.M. Branch in Hamilton, Treasurer of the RHLI Veterans Association Ladies Auxiliary and 1st Vice-President of the RHLI Veterans Association. These experiences have helped Lynda to develop the skills and leadership traits she uses at work every day, which she believe will allow her to make a very positive contribution during her Presidency of the RHLI Veterans Association.
